Besides the compression. I can assure you that the DME needs to be programmed to the engine.
I have had a DME swap, slightly different, but it does require reprogramming. The DME is by the way VIN locked. Also check other enigne parts that might require coding to your DME.

Did you swap the injectors? If you did I can definitely see this being a problem. The injectors actually have to be coded into the ECU because each injector is manufactured with slightly different piezo electric properties.
The ECU has to go with the injectors or you need to recode them in.

I have done this several times replacing injectors as I have to drive the car to my friend at the dealer and have him code it. Even LostMarine had an injector put in by us and drove all the way to South NJ and had it coded the next day, no problems |

sounds like a replacement engine will not need to be re-coded and the original dme will work with it. after massive headaches and huge time lags a second replacement engine was just put in my car and apparrently runs. yes the shop is coding the injectors. i don't know anything more at this time

First of all, the dme is not coded to any specific engine, so you can run any N54 dme with any N54 motor. second you dont have to recode injectors, you can swap injectors like changing underwear and they will still work with no problems.
My best bet for those codes is that the engine is out of timing, when I swaped my engine with a new crate engine from bmw, I had to put it back on timing because even from factory they can be out of timing. I would start by taking out the JB and let it run on stock dme to troubleshoot any problems and go from there. |

I have similar errors. Same MY N54, I used my old engine wiring harness on the new motor since the new motors engine wiring harness was for an auto tranny.
Car cranks but wont start. A ton of random error codes, electrical fault, abs fault, and airbag fault. |
