Installed VRSF catless downpipes to 335is and ruined exhaust note -need advice
Hi everyone!
I finally pulled the trigger last week on my 335is and installed the Wagener Evo 1 FMIC, VRSF catless downpipes, and went to stage 2+ through MHD. I absolutely love how the car performs. It's like a totally different car. The only problem is that by installing the DPs, I ruined the exhaust note. It's much higher pitched and very raspy above 5k RPM. I bought the IS for the exhaust note, so I am trying to decide to what to do. I have heard many people talk about installing the 1792 Vibrant resonators, but I curious if some other fellow 335is owners have done this? If so, does it make the exhaust sound like the exhaust before the catless DPs were installed. I am looking for some advice on this because I am considering going back to the stock catted downpipes if I can't get the exhaust note back that sweet deep rumble of the IS exhaust. Thanks, |

I have hiflow cat's (AR Design downpipes) originally bought them as they were supposed to be code free, but they eventually got codes but they do sound stock, no raspiness or hollowness that the catless DP's add. The issues is that all the catted options will set you back just shy of 900 bucks unless you can find some used ones, resonators may be cheaper if they work.

Any chance you have any videos? I"m in the same boat. Down pipes are my next move after inlets. I'm hesitant about the switch due to the noise and from everything I've read, even high flow cats will still throw codes and will not pass emissions in PA. |

About passing inspection: most states allow one “not ready” flag. So if your tune disables the cat efficiency monitors, as MHD allows you to do, you will have no check engine light with DPs, you will have one “not ready” flag on OBDII testing and you will pass inspection. It is possible PA doesn’t allow one not ready or required visual inspection but I’ll bet not |

You can fix the sound issue by either changing to a quieter or exhaust or get a catted downpipe

I was in the same position with my 335is, however installing the 1792 resonators in place of the secondary cats didn't help with my rasp above 5k. The smell from being full catless isn't terrible, but it's definitely noticeable.
What I'm going to do next is install high flow secondary cats with the VRSF 'Street' catback exhaust, but weld in a resonator to the 3.5" midpipe. I'm hoping this fixes my rasp & relieves some of the smell.

Catless downpipes paired with the stock non-is e92 midpipe and mufflers. Sounds great, no rasp, no drone, and deep. Maybe you can find someone trying to get rid of their oem non-is mufflers on the forum here.

That was my concern that it couldn’t be done with the IS. I think I am going to go back to the stock catalytic converter. It’s just not worth the power gains to lose the reason for buying the IS. I think can safely stay at stage 1+ right since I have an upgraded FMIC?

I have 335is catless DP with second cat delete with resonators in place and while there is still rasp like b92 says IMO it's a nice race car rasp and not a civic rasp. The resonators made the rasp less raspy.

I'm going to start gathering the parts for the new exhaust soon. Only thing is that my inspection is up in February so I will need to throw my stock DPs back on eventually.

I had to get rid of my Resonator in the rear & put in an "X" pipe, which creates rasp. You have more of an H pipe to be honest, which doesn't create as much rasp. I also have 3" MMP Catless downpipes. You can get rid of the rasp with 1792 Resonators by doing the secondary cat delete (basically putting the Resonators in their place). Your turbos will love you and you'll gain 5-10hp. I don't have exhaust smell to speak of really. All I did was reset the adaptations on the O2 sensors pre & post. I did put in brand new O2 sensors pre & post because I had 150,000 miles on the rear o2 sensors & one of my front ones, that only had 40k, on it was giving me fits. So, I went ahead and redid the front ones (which sucked because they aren't cheap) Going catless will stress the O2 sensors more if they are older. No, I wouldn't consider 40k "older". 100k + = older. At any rate, no rasp on my car what so ever |

I also really like the sound of the Cobb exhaust with catted downpipes. |
