Dealer said I had a oil pan gasket leak and needs immediate attention, quoted 7.2 hours. Took my car to an indy and the quoted price was $950 requiring at least 9 hours labor, I've read some posts here and the labor hours is usually between 6-8 hours. How do I negotiate better price or I need to shop around?

I put a quarter in there for comparison. I only drove my car a few times since I slipped in that cardboard. I haven't got any low oil light show up but this looks like a big leak? Could I put this off and keep topping off the oil? I plan to keep this car for another 12-18 months, car is 11 years old with 80k miles. Saw a recommendation to replace engine mounts at the same time of the oil pan, is this the right idea?

Looks like a good amount of leaking oil. Yes absolutely replace the mounts while in there. It’s basically a no charge on the labor and it’ll save you a chunk if done separately later.

Only keeping the car another 12-18 months? Leave it alone and top off as needed, leaving cardboard on your garage floor. I'd remove the under plastic cover so it doesn't make a mess. $950 for the repair isn't out of line however.

Do you have a manual transmission by any chance? I'll be interested when you're ready to get rid of it.

I can't tell if the posts here are sarcastic but that looks like a lot of leaking oil, that's really not a concern and I can top it off every few months?

Automatic transmission, need a confirm quick on the oil pan gasket need to get to the shop soon and make a decision.

That's nothing. Don't waste your money.

Mine leaks drastically more than that and it has no effect on oil levels.

I wasn't being sarcastic at all. That's not a lot of oil, I just see a lot of drips. You should be completely fine carrying an extra quart of oil and just adding it if/when you get the message on the dash.

Are you absolutely sure it's the oil pan leaking and not one of the oil lines to your turbos?

It can't hurt, but that leak is not significant enough to cause a low oil level between changes.

Use the dash gauge to run a slightly higher oil level, if you want a little extra assurance. I think it's 1 quart between the low and high levels.

Not 100% sure, that's just what the dealer put on the quote. I'll save the money for now. Thanks.

Look at it yourself, and ideally clean it and monitor it before you do anything. I had 3 mechanics (including pre-purchase inspection) tell me my oil pan gasket was leaking. Turns out rust had formed around the oil level sensor studs and there was a tiny hole. I fixed it myself for $10 worth of JB weld.
