LTB... Xenon D1S bulb in Canada$$??

Ok here the deal....stealer wants 340...part source wants 100 and is a Philips brand.
Anyone know if the Philips is comparable to BMW bulb.
Thoughts anyone??
This looks like a no brainer but wondering where fellow Canadians are sourcing quality bulbs without stealer premium!
TIA

Post this in the e90post Canada section. This is the off-topic section and not many Canadians read this.
But yeah, don't buy bulbs from the dealer!

I highly suggest you go for the Osram Cool Blue Intense (CBI) D1S bulbs. i've done my research and these seem to be the best bulbs for us vs. the Phillips Ultinon.

Contrary to its name, after 60 hrs of breaking in, they turn to a pure white 5200k-5500k color temp. which is a lot whiter than the stock OEM's.

Be wary, there are a lot of fake Osrams and Phillips out there.

Consider the correct price to be around $100-150/bulb. That's right, a piece.

Dont cheap out on headlight bulbs, because in the end, you get what you pay for.

Stick with the Osram/Phillips or if you want to save a bit, go with Morimoto 3Five. They're truly amazing. I've a pair in my E90 and I couldn't believe how much improved the output is compared to my 7 year old bulbs. Google the Morimoto bulbs, there's an extensive write up and test comparing them to the heavy hitters like CBI or axe arc.

I bought mine from ProLightz.ca.

Philips and Osram is best. don't go with anything else thats aftermarket. morimoto, and all those other random ones will prematurely wear your ballast.

I'd love to see anything substantiating that claim. I've never heard of a Morimoto bulb "prematurely wearing out the ballast." There's a reason tonnes of professional, expensive retrofitters have utilized these bulbs in place of Osram/Phillips for many, MANY years without complaints. There are plenty of thorough tests conducted with these bulbs and multiple top-tier bulbs. Just because you do not know about a certain product doesn't make it "random," being unaware of options is not a justification for outright writing off a product.

Not all aftermarket bulbs are created equal, that's just pure misinformation.

Morimoto is just a brand name for a Chinese manufactured product.
Surely enough, they are on the higher end of the aftermarket tier but they will never be as good as Osram or Philips bulbs. There is always a reason for why the product is cheaper.

I've gone through plenty of D1S bulbs, including MTEC which uses GE glass bulbs with their electronics. And in terms of running lifetime they can't compare to what Osram or Philips offers.

Premature wear to the ballast is one of the things that MIGHT happen when going with aftermarket bulbs, but I'm not here to argue. If Morimotos work good for you then

Not once did I say they're identical to Osram or Phillips. Assuming so would be pretty stupid...

I merely suggested that Morimoto is a quality alternative that gives you 90% of the performance for half the price; and that making wild claims such as premature ballasts ear/etc without much basis is just soliciting bad advice. By all means if you want to splurge on Osram or Phillips go for it. They're definitely the benchmark.
