Reliability 2009 335i
Hi,
Found a nice 335i 2009 with 130k Miles listed as standard no mods. Just wondering what to check for as common faults when I visit? Have a few questions to: Are valve seals an issue? Gearbox issues? Is it the ZF6 speed box? Turbos? Overall, how reliable is the engine and drivetrain? I have inpa, would this help check any common problems? Thanks Tim |

The engine is reliable, all the stuff around it a bit less so. A quick (non exhaustive) list of stuff to be extra cautious about.
Turbos (over 100k miles on stock and it tends to be a matter of time). Look for wastegate rattle and play (or smoking of course). Fuel pumps (high pressure and low pressure). This can be logged at WOT keeping an eye on low pressure and high pressure fuel rails. Injectors (check sparkplugs for fuel when vehicle cold, look for misfiring or running rough). Water pump/Tstat, if it hasn't gone yet, it likely will at some point. Valve cover/gasket, look for seepage, this likely has to be done at some point. Oil pan gasket, look for leaking. Oil filter housing gasket, look for leaking. Window regulators (just make sure all the windows work). |
