Depends on the model
I believe you can only install the halos from the top if your have the newer lci model e90, I have the pre lci model and there is absolutely no way to install it from above with the clearance I have. However I believe this only applys to pre lci e90 and possibly e91, I dont know about e92 or e93 etc. I think taking off the wheels will a bit less stressful, your gonna wish you have if you drop something in the engine bay, believe me.

I don't understand why not taking off the wheel to get access.
I have a floor jack and it's so fast to remove the wheel, why not?
