I'm very close to deleting my egr and I'm trying to decide if I should just cap off the oem egr where the cooler clamps on or buy the race pipe assembly. Capping off the oem egr would be cheaper and all I'd have to do is remove the cooler instead of the entire system. I'd have to reinstall the egr from time to time during certain years *cough cough*. Any thoughts on this?

life is too short...just use the blocking plates

I also vote for block off plates. It would be a pain to reinstall the coolant lines every single time.

Don't I have to uninstall the coolant lines to remove the cooler?

No. You don't need to fully remove the cooler to install block off plates. If you loosen everything you should be able to slide both block off plates where they need to go. First install the hot side egr block off plate then the cold side plate. Make sure you buy a ccv hose since it'll most likely be dry rotted when you remove the intake piping.

I'm a little worried about each end of the cooler touching or being pushed up against the block off plates(it's pretty tight up against the cold side when fully installed). Metal on metal with vibration over time is not a good thing.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. But the block off plates are essentially sandwiched in there when fully installed. You don't need to worry about any vibration or wearing of any kind because the plates shouldn't move once installed.

While doing more research I realized that the pic I attached is for both the hot and cold side of the cooler. The flat plate with gasket is for if you want to remove the cooler entirely. I thought you needed the plate as well if leaving the cooler on too.

BTW $75.00 for tiny little disc plates?? WTF???
