Alternate solution to the 6FL cable

Hi Guys,

I like a few people on this board did not have the 6FL cable included when I got my car. I refuse however to spend $120 odd some dollars for BMW's cable. I looked around and found a similar solution that Kenwood offers found here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-HJiAeUB...spx?i=113IP200

I've found this on ebay for $15 with shipping included. I have yet to see if this solution works equivalently but have ordered one. I'll keep you guys posted.

This cable does not seem to have the USB to serial converter box that the BMW cable has. It is listed to work ONLY on 5th Gen and Nano iPods. From this I would assume that only those iPods allow Playback CONTROL via USB and BMW uses the serial control so that 3rd and 4th Gen Ipods can be controlled as well.

All this leads me to believe that it won't work with 6FL. (But I'll be interested to hear the results of your testing and would be very happy if this DID turn out to be a low cost alternative.)

EDIT: I believe that it will work just like a USB only cable and will work the same whether or not you plug in the AUX plug. We'll see.

Subscribed. Please let us know how this works out. One of my complaints about the OEM cord is that it stick straight up out of the socket and the cable is too stiff and short. Thus, whenever you lean hard on the armrest or lift it up, it pulls the plug and screws up the sound.

Subscribed.

nix this product. It does not work with my ipod nano. It was worth the $11 experiment though.
