Cigarette lighter as remote for accessories?
Hey Guys
In preparation for my audio upgrades I will be doing the sunglass tray DIY (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7049) this week end While doing this and since I will have the center console taken out I intend to pass the speaker wires for the new underseat subs I will install, do the preparation for the radar detector hardwiring, and install the controller for my Sirius Starbase, The question I have is can I use the power from the cigarette lighter as a remote turn on for the Starbase main unit and the Sub amplifier and if so which one of the 3 wires do I need to use Thanks |

Yes, you can tap the 12v lead to the cigarette lighter (brown/stripe I think), but your Sirius unit probably has 5v Input. The cigarette ligher adapter that comes with the unit converts the power. If you hardwire, you will either have to buy a hardwire kit, or use the circuit in the OEM adapter... The sub amp probably takes 12v, but you need to consider the amps it draws as to not overload the circuit.

remote turn-on should be a really low draw.

![]() 14.4V will be fine, the specs call for 9-16V negative ground I've been thinking since the cigarette lighter turns on only with the ignition on, I should be able to power the unit from that source no? aand combine power and remote together |
