As I've swapped over to non-runflats, the concept of a spare cane to mind. I was even considering a matched rim. But I have a few factors to consider.

2011 E90 328i
19x9 F. 19x10 R.
Achilles directional tires
370mm brake to be installed so spare would need to be larger than my stock 17"s anyway.

If I were to get a 19x9 rim and wheel, how bad would it be to use that on the rear (if I had a flat there) for: a trip home; a day; a few days; a week?

I know if I'm unlucky and the tire direction is wrong I'm playing grandpa on wet roads, but how squirly would it get for driving up to 20-30 miles home with a 9" and a 10" wheel?

Point is, if I carry a spare, it's just one size. Would the open diff make it a non effect if I were cruising along? Or is it all negligible? I would tend to think not.

I'm probably overthinking it and obviously a tow package is the always correct answer, but I do like being able to take care of myself or have that wheel swap option for say repairing flats; refinishing other rims, etc. even better if It matched.

Google says the OEM spare tire is a 135/80/17 and they are fine for emergencies. You could limp home with just about anything but don't go highway speeds without proper wheels.

Well, I don't feel the 17" donut is getting around mPerformance calipers. That's the concern otherwise I have a set of 17s already.

I would buy a 9" wheel that will work on both front and back and then a tire with an acceptable diameter. Theoretically, a spare is only needed to get you to a shop to repair or replace the damaged tired, not to run for weeks or months.
