Cost of Maintenance

I understand that the 335i that is well maintained by the previous owner can be a pretty reliable car but the cost of maintenace can vary depending on how hard you tune the car. Just kinda curious so feel free to post how much power you run and the how much maintence is yearly.

I'd argue that if you're using any OTS tune, maintenance will not change versus stock, unless parts such as the turbos are already on their way out.

That's a very broad question.
Perhaps the better question is asking about the cost directly related to the failure of parts caused by increased power or tuning or preventive maintenance cost related to parts expected to have accelerated wear.

I agree, OTS tunes are quite Conservative, so maintenance is about the same.

If turbos been heavily boosted or wastegates shot, then that's a different matter.

Ran it on Stage 1 tune 93oct for at least a year with no additional maintenance, just normal service.

Main issues were oil/coolant leaks, waterpump failures, etc but once sorted has been fine, has been 2 and 1/2 years.

Your first statement yes is true.
However as already mentioned, the OTS maps are not going to cost you more in repairs. FBO stage 2+ I do plugs and coils a little more often than stock, and maybe oil changes a little closer together. Plus i only put 94oct in so maybe a tiny additional cost there. Thats it really.
I was lucky and bought my Car off an older car guy and it was mint. Finding one that has been properly cared for is key! When i was shopping I stayed away from 2007-2008ish models. I feel they had a few more problems like injectors, mosfets, etc.

Finding one that's been properly looked after is like looking for a needle in a haystack these days, lol.

Agree with what you said, apart from plugs and oil change, which is cheap, no extra maintenance over stock required.

Everything else that can fail, fails on stock as well.

This!

I don't even remember my gas mileage changing much once I tuned?!
My stage 2 STI was way more thirsty than the 335.

+1

I got extremely lucky with my 07 335i MT. Was looking around for a long time till I finally came across a pretty decent one. (07 but its still a n54) One owner, and he garaged it mainly. Carfax shows he took it to the dealership for all oil change intervals and maintenance.

Yeah if you stay off boost most of the time under normal driving, fuel consumption is about the same, if you ripping it every time, then it will drop a bit compared to stock.

I got it down to 14mpg, worst case lol,

LOL Noice!

I probably don't drive my car hard enough consistently. Although pulling onto the highway like your leaving the F1 pit lane is a must lol

Unfortunately....there really isn't a "mods to maintenance" ratio. It seems like it's just hit and miss. Way to many factors to consider. I had more issues with my 355i when it was bone stock...and not with my stage 2+ E50 tune, it's been great (knock on wood). The thing is....you never know what's going to fail or break on these things.

Coils, plugs, oil changes, and keeping an eye on everything is about all I do....and then repair stuff when it breaks.

No matter what....don't buy a 335i if you don't have plenty of extra money for maintenance and repairs. Oh...and don't forget about servicing the transmission.
