Wood trim!! Help

My coupe has the light poplar wood trim. Well, normally it's suppose to feel smooth and soft to the touch. Not on my car anymore. I took my car to get detailed and whatever chemical they used has made all of the trim feel grainy, porous, and course!

I've tried removing it with soap and water to no avail!! What the heck could they have done?!

Any advice? Thanks!

I would try a cleaner wax.

I would ask them what chemical(s) they used, and tell them about the possibly-damaged trim. I hope the coating on the wood didn't get eaten

I have the same light poplar wood grain. I use Murphy's oil soap for wood and my trim look great. You have to be careful no matter what you use because the clear coat on the trim scratches very easliy.

Well when you wax your car, does it leave swirl marks?

TO THE OP:

Yes you can find a cleaner wax OTC from megs or mothers. For example , do you know of the Mothers 3 step paint system? Well the first step would be the cleaner wax. If you ask at the parts store they should lead you in the right direction. Just make sure you dont get it all over your interior. Keep it on the wood. A cleaner wax is just what it sounds like; it is meant to clean the surface and take off any oils or build-up.

When you are done with the cleaner wax, follow it with a sealant or a real wax.

Good Luck,

Jared
