New e92 owner, nervous about coding FRM (led fogs)

Recently bought a 2011 e92 328 and wanted to throw in some led fogs lights. Thankfully read about how risky it is to code the FRM before I attempted anything. Is there anyway to tell if the FRM has been updated or is safe to code? The battery was replaced in 2016 but I don't see any history of a module change in the cars service history. Sidenote: I typically use Bimmercode iOS app for coding.

Has the battery died anytime recently or have you had a full scan done on the car recently? If yes to any then the frm is fine.

In terms of telling if it's been replaced, you can read inpa UIF and see if the frm module has a different flash date than the rest of the car. These cars usually have all their modules updated at once, so if you notice the flash date for the frm is much later than the flash date for the rest of the modules then you know it's been replaced and most likely fine to code.

Thanks for the reply @sd********* . I just recently purchased the car so no battery issues as of yet. Had to get new tpms coded to the car, and the guy that did it had ISTA+. He showed me that all of the modules were green, for what its worth. Unfortunately, I’m not familiar with INPA, and it seems like I need a windows pc to use that software, and I only have a MacBook. I don’t really know what my options are at this point.

I put the led fogs in with resistors and they work great, I just get the initial monitoring flickers when I start the car and I get the bulb out light on the dash when I turn on the fogs. Not a big deal, just bugs the heck out of me lol.

I wonder if the stealership or a indy will update my software even though I have a functional FRM.....

There is a thread on here somewhere showing how to use NCSExpert on a MAC. They setup a virtual machine, was able to pass through the cable connection, and it worked fine.

To the original question, I agree that coding individual options in the FRM is normally pretty safe. Just need to make sure you have a good battery and I always hook mine up to a battery charger for an hour or two before starting anything.

If all the modules showed green on ista then the frm is fine. Faulty frm's will only fail when they reboot. Scanning the frm causes it to reboot, having the battery disconnected or dying will cause it to reboot and coding/programming the frm will cause it to reboot. Faulty frm's won't reboot after they turn off which causes the frm symptoms people have when they fail. So the fact that a coder was able to run a full scan with ista means that the frm is okay to code.

sd********* Soo when he initially ran ISTA, there was a few yellow boxes but then he reset it (im guessing he reset something, idk) and all the boxes turned green and he said everything was good. I did notice that afterwards my windows wouldn’t drop down after I opened the door like the coupe normally does. I reset the window function by reinitializing it and now the windows are fine. With all of that said, do you still feel as if my FRM is safe?

Yes if he was able to run a full scan with ista then the frm is fine regardless if the boxes were yellow or green.
