M57 rebuild or replace

Back in January with the help of some members on this forum I decided the knocking sound coming from my 335d was probably the harmonic dampener. I replaced that, and while I was at it, deleted, tuned, and resealed a bunch of small oil leaks. Put the car back together and it didn't seem to resolve the issue.

It sat parked since January, and just yesterday I finally got around to pulling the oil pan to see what the damage was. Here's what's left of the number 1 bearing shell.

Unfortunately the cap and crank are scored. Not too badly, but bad enough that it would require machining. So I'm looking at the differences between just buying a good short block, vs getting mine machined and rebuilding it. Does anyone have any experience using oversized main bearings on these engines? I'd assume it's pretty straightforward. Also does anyone make like a 'master overhaul kit'? Best I've found so far is a top and bottom gasket set, but I'd still be on my own for bearings and rings. What power levels will the OE fasteners take? I'm thinking studding the bottom end is cheap if I'm already in there, and I'd like to do hybrid turbos someday anyways.

I just went through a total rebuild last year........there are a few aftermarket sources for rod bearings that are relatively cheap ( 100 bucks for the set .25 over ). However I tried 3 different companies for aftermarket ( King, relectec, and colbenshmidt however you spell it lol ) main bearings and on ALL of them the oiler holes on that SIDE were off and completely unusable. Had to go with OEM BMW bearing halves for the oiler side and they are quite pricey ( 45 bucks a half ). Any machine shop can TURN the crank just specify that you dont want the rod journals touched if those were ok. Hope this helps a little.
