Has anyone installed the Andream CarPlay unit? NOT the Android 10 unit or the MMI Box
Hi all,
I have a 2011 E93 with CIC iDrive with PDC and no OEM backup Camera. I wanted to install something that adds CarPlay and Backup Camera and I ran into this Andream unit (part number EW963WADCPXCIC on their website): https://www.android-car-dvd.com/prod...34605455835299 I cannot find anybody on this forum that has tried it, do you know how it works and how is the Backup Camera working with this unit if you already have PDC on the OEM unit? (i.e.: the camera is plugged into the CarPlay unit and the PDC is with the car... how can you see both when reversing?) NOTE WELL:before you kill me with the hints This is NOT the full Android 10 head unit, which has too many features that I don't need and that seems to be a bit more complicated to fit in the dashboard because of all the added cables/components and that costs about 50% more ($450 Vs. $310) - SKU: EW963Q8K64CIC-P This is also NOT the MMI / Prime box that doesn't replace the screen with a touch unit (SKU: EW-BMCP-CIC02B) I've searched the forum extensively and all the Andream posts are about those two units, not the one I linked above. Thank you in advance!! |

You'll lose the OEM backup camera and this will take over. That's how it works with my CIC and my Andream MMI box. Why would you go through the hassle of replacing the headunit? Get the MMI box and save yourself $100

The head unit I linked is $310, while the MMI box is $450. I would be saving money and getting a touch screen for the CarPlay features, that the MMI doesn't provide. |

What MMI box are you looking at? We had a group buy for $219 after discount. (I can PM you the link if you're interested with the discount code)
You'll lose the standard CIC rear PDC screen and just see the MMI backup cam. You'll still hear the beeps however.

I still think that including a touchscreen is worth the $50/100 difference. And even though you need to replace the screen, the installation seems easier than the one of the MMI (it's basically just one power cable + 1 USB cable added to the OEM wires). Thank you anyway for the offer about the discount code, I'll let you know if I change my mind. Quote:

I have these (see link below) in 4 of my cars now. They have the option to use the OE backup camera/PDC or its own camera/pdc screen which is better in several ways:
1. Backup image is full screen 2. PDC imagery is overlayed on the backup image to save space. The PDC image is generated from the factory system. 3. This system boots instantly rather than taking a few seconds like the factor one 4. Dynamic parking lines are included. They move with the steering wheel https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001...6f884596Md2Ld8 |

I was just coming here to correct my original post. There is a graphic overlay available that shows the PDC sensors like you get with the stock CIC unit. You can have that or full screen backup cam.

No idea if it's going to work in 2021, but give it a shot. Total has to be over $300 before the discount code works.

Has everything you need. If you get an MMI box, you can add an OEM BMW touch screen and it will work, but the touch screen WILL NOT WORK with your OEM idrive menu, just the new stuff. |

Has anyone also ordered and installed the backup camera from Andream? I got one and just went to install it, it fits too loosely in the trunk opening, to the point where I can easily pull it out and can see it falling out when driving.

I bought the Wakaa MIM and back up camera. Works pretty well, but the wire from the camera to the MIM needs to be extended for an E93. The power line for the camera on the camera cable is too small for a reliable connection with red crimp connectors, so either soldering or a different crimp connector should be used.
