factory subs not working with double din pioneer

i put in a double din pioneer in my 2006 pre lci E90 and the subs under the seat dont seem to work. now i cant tell.you what was in the car originally as it had a custom install before with a big 15 inch sub and box in the boot.

do the subs need a separate amplifier? would it go under the boot carpet close to the back of the rear seats? if so i got nothing there. someone mentioned something about something being there to do with the telephone but ive seen stuff about amps but no idea if they go there or not?

ive definitely got subs under the seats i checked i have read they aint great but thats all ive heard but id expect something to come out of them but nothing seems to be. maybe i have to wire them in separately?

To find out what the car came with use Mdecoder.com and read the 6xx options.
Input Vin and you will get the original configuration.
I am guessing since your in Europe that it might have had the base sound system
in which the front floors are wired in parallel with the floors.

The two other common possibility's are 676 Hi Fi and 677 Logic 7.

If someone was modifying the car there is no good way of knowing how it's
set up now other than going in ad verifying the wiring with and ohm/volt meter.
First thing you have to establish after you know which system it came with are the
under seats wired in at all. Lot's of bass head 's bypass the under seats. And you
will want to replace them if they are stock because they are crap and yes you want
to amp every channel you care about.

Please Read at least the first 3 or 4 links.
And the last one if you have the base system.

Why does it have to be so complicated ugh! this is the most complicated car ive ever worked on.

the subs havw wiring and they are there. the seats had basic wiring but i had to add more because i put in electric seats so i added can connection to the drivers seat and main power to both seats that wasnt too difficult

While more than half of them come from this forum they don't
redirect to the thread you started at least not from my computer.
Because this forum has the concentrated knowledge of the BMW stereo systems.

they do here maybe because i am only in this forum then. but either way i cant get to them.

just need to figure out now why the subs are not working maybe its a setting on the stereo i dont know but all the wiring seemed to be connected between the car and the stereo for the speaker side of things. Or maybe they need to be amplified and i havent got an amplifier i dont know.

The under the seat subs "might" be on the same circuit as the front door & tweeter speakers, even though there are clearly separate speaker wires going from the factory wiring harness to the subs.

I know when you add a DSP for example to a logic 7 set up, you need to cross over the door speakers with subs. That's why I say that.

You would have to take the pioneer out & see how it's wired in the rear & compare that to the install directions for that radio.

Do you have the factory amp, after mkt amp or are you running simply off of the pioneer receiver?

well considering there is only 8 wires going to the iso adaptor (not sure if there are any more wires i mean my old volvo had centre speaker wires on the power connector so maybe...) theyre in series or parallell i think? i can never remember which.

for the door speakers and tweeters (which i dont have) the tweeters just connect to the speakers as there is 2 connections on the speakers on vehicles with tweeters ive found that much out.

what do you mean by cross over the door speakers with subs?

ive attached the pinouts for the wiring harness its just the one on the left the one on the right doesnt apply. pretty standard stuff by the looks of it. i do have a sub option but its on rca jacks so its separate.

so if the subs are wired into the 8 wires on the car side and through to the radio they should be working surely?

kind of figured out the problem the head unit has frequency settings for speakers and as the subs are connected with the speakers that's a problem because the speaker ranges dont go down to bass levels. So looks like im going to have to disconnect the subs and put them through an amplifier or low pass filter or both.

if i wire them to an amp and to my head unit i can setup the sub's frequency range on the head unit so that might be the plan. but i bought a sub box that takes 2x 8 inch subs im going to amplify those first and see if theyre going to be enough for what i want. they should be enough i dont need super bass just sick of hearing just mid range.

What you need is mid range subs under the seats & a true 10" or 12" sub in the trunk. A corner mount, fiber glass box works best IMO.

#13 is the remote out wire (blue) to run external amps, on the quad lock harness

Pioneer makes a really nice set of under the seat subs.

PIONEER 8" Slim 700W 2 OHM SUBWOOFER https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0811X5S9J...UTF8&psc=1

Set the cross over to 20 to 500 w/ a slope of 12

I would get a 4 + 1 amp so you can add a trunk sub at a later date.

To power 250w RMS at 2ohm, you'll need probably something like this ;

under seat subs are far more than i want to spend money on the head unit was £500 with all the wiring that was a big hit. id be happy with a bit of bass.

i tested the subs that come with the car i pulled them out to test them and as people have said they really are shit! so im just not going to mess with them at all. ill just put a pair of subs in the boot i think with an amp.

You will be missing a large part of the mid range without the under seats.
Which are really not Subs in any model.
