Hub housing issue
Hello all,
Looking for some advice when replacing a rear wheel bearing. As I'm replacing the wheel bearing I find the housing like this (see pictures for details). Does this need to be replaced and what part is it? |

Holy crap! Yes, absolutely needs to be replaced. Probably damaged in a previous accident / curb strike. Look for other damage too that may have been missed, like buckling control arms.
Check realoem with your car specifics, but I think this is the part you need. Goes by various names like upright, knuckle, or in BMW-speak 'wheel carrier'. Seems to be the same P/N whether LCI or not. Left or right: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...ft-33326774807 https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...ht-33326774808 |

Jesus Christ, just clean the suspension knuckle with a drill and wire brush and Brake Clean. The wheel hub comes out with the inner bearing race on it, so you need tools to pull the bearing race off.

Ah, I didn't see the fracture on my phone. Now on my computer, I see it.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

That's a crack in the bearing bore?
I didn't know what I was looking at, Just thought that was the gap between the hub and the spindle and the camera angle. A new spindle is most certainly in order. Get one out of a salvage yard. That's not a part that normally fails. How does that even happen? Think somebody tried to press out the bearing without removing the snap ring... Realized the mistake, then went ahead and installed a new bearing anyway?
