Whereas certain tuners toot their own horns with great regularity, looks like you have to drag this info out of Jim.

I'm thinking that a simple statement on the status, like... "Still on schedule for a July release" would be enough. Don't need to know a bunch of details until then, we have enough speculators here to make it interesting.

Jim is very reliable. I would presume there will be a July release unless Jim says otherwise.

I have been updating the SharkInjector thread.

It was delayed due to security reasons (and family reasons). OBDI stuff isnt scheduled until the first of July now I believe.

Some loser in the SE/SI thread was talking about "hacking" Jim's program and decrypting the images, etc. He decided to delay and add more security. Kinda like how DVD did the same thing and then it was cracked in less than a week by a 16 year old...

IMO thats completely pointless. NO matter how much security you add if someone wants to hack it they will. There is always someone better.. All more security does is slightly delay the inevitable.

If OBD1 is delayed till July 1st what does this mean for our cars?

That's what I was just wondering as well. Which was scheduled to be released first, OBDI or II?

I believe all E9x are OBDII. It's just the type of port used for diagnostics. OBDII was required for all European makes as of 2004.

^OBII is any car after 1996. From Jim C's comments it seems he's pretty confident that the shark edit won't care which ecu/progman's on the car. the thing is, at least how i understood it, the shark edit is more of a developer's tool and the real end user thing will be the shark injector, which will come after the shark edit, which will cost like $300, be easy to install and get around any tunedetection bmw throws at it. that's when the piggybacks will have some real competition on their hands. correct me if i'm wrong - jim was a bit cryptic when he used to post here.

now if the shark edit/injector isn't all its cracked up to be, i'll be all over the jb3 because you can not beat Terry's customer service and no cryptic comments.

last time i checked under the hood the 95 (obd-1) m3 used an eprom. which you can not flash over any port. so maybe he's making a program like WINOLS (great program) or using that program the ford guys give away free (just make map definitions) for obd-1.

fwiw eproms require you to remove the sticker and erase them with light. they could replace that eprom with a flash or a rom-u-lator.

encryption boards have failed in socketed applications always.

Shark edit won't care... but thats just the editing software... but you won't be able to inject that into a v81 until they crack the encryption, and to do that, he has to analyze it first... Here is a quote:

come as I add them. Or as 3rd parties add them.

YOU could even write an add-on if you wanted too

MSD81 has barely hit the dealers - I need to find an MSD81 equipped car in
Utah - with a decent owner - order a spare DME for it - have the car and
the DME taken into the dealer and flashed to the same I-Level and have the
CAS programmed/synced - see the new DME start the car - then have the
owners original DME returned to the vehicle.

Then I can start analyzing that DME.
From what that tells me, he hasn't started on v81 yet, and the first releases will NOT work until he or someone else makes a v81 "add-on".
