how to check that my DME has correct ZUSB

Hi all,

I suspect that my MSD80.2 has an incorrect ZUSB. I need some help to know if that is true and if so, how I can identify the correct ZUSB.

I pulled the DME and is has the correct VIN, so it seems to be the original.

On the sticker it says:

Siemens VDO
7583225
DME MSD80.2
5WK93643

I think this is the hardware part.

Another sticker reads:

Motorsteuergerat 7585856

I think that is the original ZUSB when it left the factory.

Now, with INPA I read the following from the UIFs:

--------------------------------------
Entry 1:

Vehicle identification number: xxxxx
Date: 03.12.2007
Change index:
Software number: 7585857
Office number: 7570805
Assembly identification number: 7585856
Seral number: 12345
Program number: 0044RC0Q860S
Kilometer: 0
Dealer number: 011111

--------------------------------------
Entry 2:

Vehicle identification number: xxxxx
Date: 05.10.2016
Change index:
Software number: 8687855
Office number: 7570805
Assembly identification number: 8687856
Seral number: 12345
Program number: 0044RC0Q960S
Kilometer: 153000
Dealer number: 011111

For entry 1, the assembly identification number (ZUSB) corresponds to the DME sticker. Good.

When I check with FindECU (DME/DDE SA option helper) for the original ZUSB I do indeed get Base ECU nr 7583225.

OK, good again.

However, entry 2 shows ZUSB 8687856. If I check that with FindECU I get Base ECU nr 8672565 - a different hardware number!

To me that looks like the wrong ZUSB is in my DME. Is that indeed so?

If so, how do I find out what ZUSB I should flash into my DME then?

Thanks

I believe that 8687856 is incorrect, at least as of 2016 (the issue date of the daten I'm using - v60.1)

The direct source for the information you seek is in the BMW daten in HIS files, which give the complete history of all ZUSB updates for a given module.
If you've done a typical installation of BMW tools AND installed a daten (necessary for WinKFP to function) then you will be looking for a file named MSD802.HIS in the directory C:\EC-APPS\NFS\DATA\MSD802

You will find two columns: "alt" (old) on the left; "neu" (new) on the right. Find your original ZUSB (7585856) in the "old" column and note the adjacent ZUSB in the "new" column. Search for this adjacent ZUSB in the "old" column. Iterate through the list until your "new" ZUSB has no duplicate in the "old" column. I believe 7588600 is the most recent update for your DME.

The ZUSB you (or a previous owner) updated to is present in the MSD802.HIS file from v60.1 but there is no upgrade path to it from your original ZUSB.

Thanks.

I have SP-daten 69.0, and I was able to trace the following history from the MSD802.HIS file:

from to
7585856 7586516
7586516 7588600
7588600 7593112
7593112 7593646
7593646 7595062
7595062 7597942
7597942 7602674
7602674 7627882
7635278 8675550
8675550 8687856

So, it seems to be correct after all. This DME seems to have gotten quite some updates then since SP-daten 60.

Thanks for guidance.

I went back to check in v60.1 - I must apologize - I went through it too quickly the first time and made a mistake - 8687856 actually is in the upgrade path; in v60.1 it is the last entry in the list and there are no further upgrades. from it. So perhaps there haven't been updates between v60.1 and v69.0

I think you skipped two iterations in your list (from 762882->7635278 is not contiguous) but our datens are otherwise the same: and we get to the same place.

In your v69.0:
7602674 7627882
7635278 8675550
8675550 8687856

In v60.1:
7602674,7627882
7627882,7630676
7630676,7635278
7635278,8675550
8675550,8687856
