Traction Control

I have recently being playing around with my DCT button (ooh er missus!) and wondered if anyone could explain in laymans terms what the difference is between the settings - ie press button once and press button for 6 seconds etc. And does switching the traction off completely make the car more powerful or is it just my imagination???

- Push it once (DTC appears)
This for driving in snow

- Push and hold (The yellow circle appears)
This disables the DTC completely and will re-arm after you stop and restart the car.

For old times sake...have a look at this thread which NFS created in the 'General section', almost 18 months ago.

The way that tea maker pops up from your glove compartment is a true feat of automotive engineering, especially when you've got the 'M' button down.

BTW- mines a Chocolate Hobnob this time, if you don't mind- the Rich Teas do neither the car nor the tea maker any justice whatsoever.

Oh so a better car means better biscuits does it...?

Hobnobs it is, although at the next meet I expect a few will turn up anyway

Naturally. DTC stands for 'Dispense Cup of Tea', obviously as we all know those on the continent tend to get their words the wrong way round and the German translation is literally:

Dispenink Teekenborgen Cuppisk.

DSC+ is for the sugar. (Sucrasbinken), simply press and hold for 5 secs to dispense one lump and so on.

Remember though, tea is hot, so if you pour it directly onto your skin it will hurt. For this reason BMW recommend you always use their officially branded cups.

Anway .. I thought it was a really good thread (especially my posts :lol). Can't understand why anyone would want it to die

In brief then, for old times sake:

Start the car and by default DSC+ is engaged. All stability and traction control systems are engaged. This includes engine intervention, which will reduce revs to avoid loss of traction.

Press the DTC to switch on DTC - this backs off the traction control and other interventions so that they intervene later (particularly the reduction in engine speed) to permit wheelspin. According to BMW this is for snowy or low traction conditions, but we all know it is really for wheelspins of the line and cheeky tailslides on deserted roundabouts.

Press and hold for 10 secs to switch DSC off. This means you are on your own and only the ABS remains active.

Anyone want to debate the finer points?

I think it does sharpen the throttle response, plus the engine intervention is off, so the power isn't dropped down when the wheels are sliding

But the system is DSC and you press a DTC button, therefore you're turning DTC on aren't you? and what about ASC+T?

Thanks for the info guys!!!! Have to say i went out in the car today and turned everything off - oh my god, scared myself close to death!! - hit the throttle coming off a thankfully large and wide roundabout and went into a huge power slide - through sheer luck than judgement or skill i somehow managed to keep composed and feathered the throttle until the slide was under some manner of control and powered out of it and carried on on my merry way - the look on a guys face as he was waiting to come onto the roundabout was priceless!! Not big or clever but a lot of fun!! Suffice it to say DTC will remain on for the forseeable future.

I've actually started turning DSC off quite a bit lately.

It's easy to forget that the 330i is quite a powerful motor when all the electronic aids are there. Especially when the engine just bogs down when you try to pull away to quickly or hoof it out of a bend.

With the aids off, the car is much sharper, but you need to take care.

I do think this Tea Maker is much more suited to a Rolls Royce than a BMW!
