Noob Q: Piggybacks replace the need to go see tuners?
My friend who drives a Suby keeps insisting that I go see a tuner to have my car tuned.
Does our piggyback tunes do all the adjusting of boost, a/f ratios, etc etc that a tuner would normally flash onto a turbo car, or is it still worth the time to go seek out a professional tuner? My intuition is that it does, but I want to be sure so I can tell him to stop bothering me for good. Many thanks in advance.

Do you think a professional tuner would be able to optimize one of Shiv's maps or maybe take full advantage of the new Shark Edit? It would be a long drive for me to go all the way out to Cali to meet up with team Vishnu :-)

No, I would say, stick to shiv's maps, since the "tuner" has no first hand experience and no R&D, they would most likely not be able to make it better... As for piggybacks and custom tunes, piggybacks are better because like someone said, you can remove it and also, where as the custom tune it would be very difficult to remove.. An STi and a 335i is very different when it come to tunning.

All Shiv would have to do is incorporate some time of data logging into his piggyback so that a custom tune is possible. Certain situations go into a custom tune like rpm and vehicle load on the engine at certain rpm, WOT situations, part throttle situations. All these situations would record timing, wide band A/F ratios, boost, map sensor reading. If this is already possible with the procede then any understanding tuner with the proper hardware would beable to flash a customers car with a new tune.

sweet then custom tunes shouldnt be a problem. just wondering if Shiv thinks the demand is there for his customers to take advantage of this and have their cars tuned properly instead of using a base tune that everyone else is using. Not all cars are the same and not all cars can run the same tune. PROcede is no differant then the hondata S200 or S300 i am using with my Civic.

....And we already have that with the user torque table. It primarily adjusts boost but the change has effect on timing and fuel as well. Since the N54's direct injection makes it largely insensitive to fueling, the UT table is just about all you need to custom tune a car. Just make sure you start-off with the appropriate base map since each map incorporates changes to the PID boost control system that, for good reason, isn't user tunable. Shiv |
