Hello, my Vanos adaptation values in INPA are pretty off, dme is not throwing any codes but I would like to remedy this.

Does this indicate stretched timing chain, bad vanos acutators or someone just did the timing wrong?

I bought the car cheap, 2oo ooo miles, no service history, solenoids changed, return valves cleaned.

try to delete engine adaptations after that start learning vanos by service functions , let the engine to work for a while and check for differences

Hi deleting adaptations has no effect, DME relearns the same values.

I think someone timed the engine incorrectly.

I will have to open it up and re-time it with proper tools :/

You're right could be a timing issue. I highly doubt that other issues like worn bearing would happen on both intake and exhaust at about the same time. I'm not sure if the N52b25 engine suffers from sheered vanos bolts or something like that. How do your other INPA screens look? Wonder if if incorrect timing would cause rough running.

Retiming is not difficult from what I've seen, just make sure you have a good torque wrench and new bolts where needed. Timing tools aren't that expensive. If you're retiming your engine, why not also take a look at your bearing ledges?

The timing chain was streched like 2cm in lenght. Timing chain tensioner plunger came out of the body so it became much longer. New tensioner couldnt reach the guides at all. There were some timing marks on vanos so someone probably reset the timing in the past.

I replaced the timing chain. Runs better.
