However, I think the current RX, and even this prototype, are ugly as fugg. I'm really, truly, not a fan of any sort of lexus designs...they just do do anything for me. I like bold, crisp design, which is just about the opposite of current lexus design language.

I'll reserve final judgment until I see the real thing as usual.
It is ugly now, but its not so bad when you think it was designed years ago. It doesnt stand out like a sore thumb compared to some other really ugly things on the road these days.

I think back in the days it was actually quite nice. It's growing old very fast now though, and I've never liked the interior. I agree with what you said about Lexus' design language, but they might yet learn. Look at their 2 latest concepts:

That's crisp, bold and attractive.

Ha! You think we are kidding? Watch the video in the link. The only inaccurate part of the story is the Porsche Boxster being a sportscar.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7472490.stm

Police are investigating a crash in which a £30,000 SUV ended up parked on top of two other cars, one of them a Porsche sports car worth up to £45,000.
It happened at about 1700 BST in the car park of the Co-Op supermarket on Belfast's Lisburn Road.
The vehicle, an automatic Lexus, drove over the Porsche and a Toyota Celica, which were parked directly in front.
The Porsche Boxster was damaged on its wing and bonnet, while the Toyota Celica was crushed.

Both cars were damaged, although the SUV escaped largely unscathed

One person, believed to be the Porsche driver, was taken to hospital.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The BBC spoke to the driver of the Toyota, but he said he was "not in the mood to give interviews".

What you say is true, about how the RX is an old design, I did forget that. I stand corrected, and have to say that, for the time when it was new and fresh, it was a successful design.

You also make a god point by bringing up those concepts. Judging from all the latest spy pics and prototypes, the lf-a has a chance at greatness. Hell, I even kinda like that suv concept.

I'll be sure to keep my hopes up.

Oh, one minor quip with that SUV concept: I'm tired of the ridiculous shoulder-to-greenhouse proportions on many modern cars these days. No offense to Toyota or anything, but I think it's by far the most extreme when it comes to making cars feel like bathtubs with little slits for windows.

Hopefully that's just another feature that the concept exaggerates.

It has the same muscular body and roofline, but the general bodywork has been improved, front/rear lights, grille, interior etc. It worked for the X5, because the old X5 was a good base design. I love the new X5, I place it top in it's class.

The current RX isnt all that bad. It's just getting old. I remember when it first came out how great it looked back then. This new one has improved front/rear lights, grille and general bodywork that indicates to the LF-Xh concept. There is still a lot of camo hiding the bodywork. It looks like it will receive chrome rear lights but I hope it doesnt! Lexus moved away from that will the IS and I'm sure they wont go back to it.

The biggest change here seems to be the interior. Man it already looks so much better than the current one which is growing old fast! It takes hints from Lexus LF-A and LF-Xh concepts. It's smoother and has more class.

This will be interesting, because so far I love the X5 over everything else in it's class. Maybe Lexus can change that with a new direction? Time will tell. They are also preparing an LF-A with completely new design and it should be V10 powered!
I agree, all true

+1

That kinda annoys me. That's what I love about the X5. It has a perfect balance in that regard and the proportions are perfect. The M-sport is hot.

I'm looking for a smaller SUV that gets good gas mileage that's Japanese... and this is pretty disappointing. Camos can be misleading though. Anyone know when we'll see the real thing?
