I'm contemplating PPF and just cant make my mind up- i never had it before and yes although i always ended up with small stone chips here and there - never had any issues selling the car - have you had it done before? was it worth the money ?

I actually just did mine, PPF full front and ceramic coating everywhere else. Never had done it before either and tried to do as much research as possible before jumping in. For me, a huge part of it was the peace of mind as road debris due to road construction or some other calamity took a toll on my previous M340i's paint. I know it won't cure everything of course but hopefully it prevents the worst paint damage. I plan on keeping this car for a long time so I wanted the extra protection. If leasing for a couple of years, probably not worth it. Probably would imagine how much you drive as well as what type of driving too would play into that decision. I do a lot of highway driving where most of the damage I would image happens due to high speeds.

thanks, i don't drive that much but when i go on motorway i do 300 miles a day (maybe 3 trips a month like this) so a little worried ill get the same as my old 240i
im trying to weigh it out - ppf or spend some money on touch up repair when it actually happens

I'm on the fence as well. Getting quotes for full front and ceramic.

If you're the kind of person who don't mind having less than perfect paint, I don't think it's worth the cost.
I hate rock chips and scratches, especially on the front end that sticks out like a sore thumb.
For me it's definitely worth the $6.5k+ price for the peace of mind and to keep the paint underneath almost perfect for years to come.

Besides the rock chips its so much easier to wash your car after ceramic coating.

I've had it done to so many cars in the past. I'm not going to do it to this M3.
Here's why.
I'm a bit OCD and never and I mean never is PPF a perfect application.
Often it's a trade-off —you feel better about protection but then some of the areas just look terrible. PPF also had to be replaced after a certain number of years which to me doesn't make sense -especially since my M cars are typically low mileage driven cars.
My solution going forward is stay away from trucks and roadways where there's close traffic —
and I never tailgate

Lets sell you guys on the importance of getting PPF on the impact zones. My G82 xDrive is full body PPF, and I'm about to post a new thread on how windshield PPF saved me, today.

Now, if you're one of those people that just acquire lease after lease, then this may not be worth it to you. If you actually own the car, and plan to keep it for any amount of time, or actually believe just getting the car, repainted, and not caring about the quality of a repaint, when comparing it to a factory paint job.

To me, if the car needs to be repainted, you may as well total it. I don't want it. Even worse, the dealerships are getting smart, and the last car they gave me all of the money, for, the first thing they did was walk around and take paint reading with a digital depth gauge.

In the pictures, the clean bumper, is after the PPF was removed. Does PPF do anything, or is it worth it? If you don't want to repaint, yes. Instead of a costly $4k-$5k repaint, you can get the $1,500 in PPF replaced, under insurance.

This is the first car I have ever gotten PPF and Ceramic on. I had a partial PPF (hood, entire front, pillars, headlights, etc) and ceramic coat on all the rest. My car had 24 miles on it 3 weeks ago when the dealership took it over to the PPF shop (which, during the transit over to get PPF, I got a rock chip on the front grill; the irony!!). So, I don't have a lot of experience with it yet, but I will say that after a light shower the other day, all the water just sort of blew off the car and it looked like it had never rained. Whereas, in my last car (F80 M3), water spots would show up right after any kind of precipitation and the car looked dirty.

I pondered this when getting my car and with less than 400 miles, I had a small rock chip on my car so I scheduled it for PPF. On the highway, a truck carrying junked cars had metal debris fly off in another lane right across my hood and if not for PPF, it would of damaged my hood. The highway is a ear zone and I don't regret my decision.

I’m a big fan of PPF. Protection is great, but even better in my opinion is that you don’t really get permanent swirl marks. Sure the PPF surface will get swirl marks when you wipe it or whatever, but they go away after a while since the plastic “self heals.”

Most G80/G82 owners on Bimmerpost seem to be getting at least partial PPF.
