I have a 2012 E91, need new brake pads and rotors. Would you consider going to Budget Brake & Muffler and/or Canadian Tire? Or a BMW dealership only?

None of the above. Find a good-rated independent BMW/ German / Euro focused shop. Or just any decently-rated repair shop. Brakes aren't anything special, you don't wanna go blow cash at the dealer but you don't want fast food either.

I've heard and seen horror stories from Canadian Tire.

If you want a highschool kid working on your brakes then go ahead, otherwise stay away.

That shop is good for one thing...to pass you the air hose so you could fill your tires, ON YOUR OWN. Thats it.

- shop rate- 129 / hour .
- one of the cleanest shop I have ever seen
- he's an bmw expert, does alot of n52, n54 , n55.

I had ⁰this whistle noise that came and go as I drove. I went to three shops, they didn't know what the reason was. they told me it could be alternator, + 3 other maybe solutions which would cost ober 1 k . Didn't want to pay over $1,000 to trouble shot something and it might not fix the issue.

All three said, if i dont mind the noise it wont effect the car. that was 1.5 year ago. As time went by especially the last few months it kept getting louder and worst + more symptoms.

Brought it to Columbus automotive as recommned by e90post members, he look it for 5 mins and told me it's 100% vavle cover, which doesn't happen often on n54 engines. Got it fixed, car drives 1000 times better , smoother and no more embarrassing noise at drive through .

- works on mostly bmw very knowledgeable, he have n54 1 series himself.
- not the cleanest shop, only have 2 lifts but pricing is always good Ns he's very honest doesnt try to upsell you services .
