Worn tires or bad differential
Worn tires, replaced my tires today. Not sure if all runflats are like this, but my old set of Bridgestone Turanza 225/45/17s were on their way out almost down to the tire wear indicator tabs. The driver's side front wheel was getting progressively louder over the last 1000 miles and sounded like a failing front diff since there was very little change in pitch over varying road surfaces. You can say it sounds like a failing wheel bearing too, but there was no change in pitch when the car was loaded to one side or another.
Picked up a square set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4AS for $700 with install/valve stem seals. Ride is more comfortable, but bouncy and less stiff (suspension is good, shocks/control arms replaced 25k miles ago). On the N52s these are perfect tires for the price. If you have a N54/N55 putting out much more power than the N52, I'd stick to runflats for the more planted feel. Thought I'd put this out there due to limited information on worn runflat sounds. |
