That's a Truvelo. They don't flash as they use infra red to take pictures. Can take pictures of you approaching to get the driver but it cannot flash. It uses pressure sensors in the three stipes in the road to set it off. You ca see the lines going back to a box on the pavement and then heading back to the Truvelo

anyway it was a truvelo as correctly pointed out by recalluk. I looked closely and saw two circular 'peepholes' as opposed to the squares on the gatso. however it looked exactly like one. no blue livery as per truvelo also no markings from what i could see but ill double check this for my peace of mind.

on the link that was posted above it says:

To avoid the 'flash' which is given out by a rear facing Gatso camera the Truvelo system uses an infra red flash which produces no visible 'flash' to the approaching driver. These rely on 3 white-lines in the road, painted just before the camera, and are triggered by strips in the road, used to gain the vehicles speed.

i did see bright flashes thats why i knew i had been flashed!!! maybe once or twice in quick succession! WTF?!
Truvelos do flash. They have a magenta filter to reduce glare when forward facing, but the flash is very visible to the naked eye.

Sometimes they have a dummy flash:

But if they are set for real and recording data then they will have only caught you if you were pretty close and within the triple lined road markings that you can see in your picture:

If you were close to the triple white line markings there is a chance that you have been caught.

If not, then you should be safe.

The police have 14 days (not including the date of the offence) to get a NIP (notice of intended prosecution) to the registered keeper. So if you haven't hear by then you are home free.
