These guys are always entertaining, but I don't think MB will offering them a tester for a while. I've always liked the C63 for being such a hooligan. I have no interest in this iteration though.

I don't understand the decision to not pursue a 6 cyl. This 4 cyl hybrid setup just doesn't seem to do anything well. They got too caught up in the "F1 technology" marketing aspect of the thing.

I've never cared for V8s to be honest, I'd rather have less weight over the front axle hence my love for BMW straight 6s. However this Merc, even with a 4 cyl, manages to weight 4700 lbs. Insane. M3 and Giulia QV are nearly 1000 lbs lighter.

Who knows maybe this will sell just fine. A lot of people out there are just brand loyal and don't care how a car is powered or how it drives.

Mercedes be like: I take your hideous grille & poor design choices BMW, and raise you a giant, stinking turd.

I thought maybe Mercedes would have worked some magic - with all the talk of F1 tech and maybe figuring out a way to hide the mass.... but nope... sounds like it's about as bad as I feared.

If you're going to make a performance hybrid, the 2 systems have to work SEAMLESSLY! There simply can't be any lag. BMW got this right, thankfully, on their hybrids. Mercedes seems to have mailed it in.

Someone needs to put weights into an M3 to match the weight of this new c63 and see how they compare then. Just for fun.

I don’t actually hate the concept of what they’ve done other than the weight and so far it seems like they haven’t made it a cohesive package

All 63 AMG's should be V8's. You dont want to use a V8, give it a different name. Sick of 4cyl, hybrids and electric BS. Environmental nerds dont buy AMG's.

S65 V8 in the E9x M3 was lighter than the straight-6 in the E46.

Carwow had to load up an M3T with five people to be beaten in a drag race by the RS4 Competition

from V8 SC to 4 banger turbo in two generations. If there is going to be a next gen you know for sure its going to be a 1L 3 cylinder with 4 turbos and 1000 hp. RIP ICE. Game over

So I’m happy to inform you the S65 weighed 202KG while the S54 weighed 149KG.

The V8 was over 1/3 (35%) heavier than the 6.
From the BMW E92 M3 press release at launch

Weighing a mere 202 kg (445 lb), the V8 power unit featured in the BMW M3 is a genuine lightweight. Even compared with the six-cylinder power unit in the former model, engine weight is down by some 15 kg or 33 lb.

Cheers
I expect the biggest difference is the switch from cast iron for the S54 block to aluminium for the S65.

There should be room for both in this world. I know a guy who had a C43 which he bought purely for the sound. Now he has a Tesla due to his 2.5 hr roundtrip commute, but he still loves ICE cars and wants another AMG for when he's not commuting.

This obsession with banning every last new ICE car off the face of the Earth is not rooted in any logic. Plenty of people would love an economical EV daily but ICE for other uses. It's akin to a dorky yet practical smart watch vs a Rolex. People enjoy owning both
