1st gear Kicks hard?
For some reason when Im at a Dead stop then get on the throttle slightly, first gear seems to kick hard. is this normal? not sure what rpm its at but guessing around 1k. I have 550 miles(auto). It kind of freaks me out or maybe im just paranoid(not used to low end torque). anyone familiar with this thanks?

No, it's nothing serious and the last progman doesn't eliminate it.
It is under research at the moment by BMW but will be a SW upgrade in a later version.

I have SSTT and step. Mine kicks pretty hard in first gear as well. You need to give it JUST enough gas for an easy take off and clean shift. I still even get the kick every now and then. 18000 miles here.

My does this as well. Brand new with only 70 miles on it, so the new program doesn't eliminate it....

Its not a problem with your tranny or anything, its just the way the car drives. Basically if you notice, the lurch is when you are rolling slightly then taking off in first. The way to eliminate it is to brake a little harder than you think you need to so that you feel the momentum of the car shift to the rear end when you let off the brake. It's hard to explain but I don't get the lurching at all and it has more to do with how I use the brake than the throttle.

Yeah, hopefully BMW will resolve this issue one day, but don't hold your breath. I even had a service tech delete my neutral idle control. it helped slightly, but did not fully resolve the issue. 11/06 build. 12,3800 miles.

pretty annoying..especially when you have a 16 month old in the back seat. Only does it every once in a while.

I was having the same issue while in regular drive mode. I also had the same issue while in DS mode and it would lurch going into 3rd and 4th. Just took it in for an oil change and told them about it, they updated the software per a service bulletin (24 03 08) and it doesn't do it any longer.

It's the stop assist. The brakes are still activated after you let go on the pedal to hold the car from rolling for a moment, especially useful if you're on a hill and starting off.
I notice it only does it on 1st gear and not on 2nd as the computer knows that might stall the car. |
