MSD81 / V81 Question - Just detection or + prevention?
I vaguely remember seeing the answer to this before, but a quick search did not reveal.
Is V81 just throwing a code indicating the tampering with of engine parameters or does it go so far as to prevent you from doing so with a limp mode or fault mode? As in, if Joe Blow wants his 400rwhp on his v81 car and doesn't care about the warranty, is he free to do that or will the "tune detection" actually prevent him from exceeding the amount of power that the V81 safe tunes allow? Thanks, |

It's just throwing codes, you can still tune it like its a v80 if you don't care about the ecu throwing codes. |

You can still pull out some decent power with the MSD81 and not throw codes. If throwing warranty codes is not an issue, you can tune it how you like still. Based on my own findings and R&D, the MSD81 is more sensitive though with respect to certain parameters.

^^ Ok, thanks for the answers guys. For some reason I thought it actually limped home or something when the tune detection was tripped.
