I own an E90 330i sedan and E93 335i convertible. I'm actively seeking quotes for car insurance and I'm really surprised that the 330i costs significantly more to insure than my 335i for the same coverage, same number of miles driven per year, same usage. This isn't with one or two vendors, every single quote I've gotten has the same pattern.

I find this very surprising considering the 335i has significantly more power, had a higher MSRP when new, has a much higher current KBB value (nearly double the 330!) and is significantly more expensive to repair than the 330i given the complexity of the folding roof mechanism.

The only thing I can guess is that it comes down to statistics, but it's odd that the rowdy car is much cheaper to insure.

I’ve long since stopped trying to figure out car insurance premiums. My 135i is over $1300 a year to insure. Just 3 years ago it was barely $500. Changed states so that has something to do with it but holy smokes.

More applicable, my white 2008 e91 (manual, RWD) is about $860 for the year and my 2011 RWD auto e91 is about $100 more. All three are going up in June. Interestingly, by far the most expensive car we own to insure is our Tacoma. We’ve had zero claims. And I’ve never had a moving violation or a claim of any kind.

Really ? For my E90 330i Im paying about $500 yr. Just liability which is the basic needed here in CA.

In Illinois there is no limit to what our insurance overlords can charge for auto insurance. State Farm has raised my premium about 10% in each of the last three years even though inflation was at 3.9% during these periods. I have not made a claim in 24 years. I’ve rattled the cages of all my local and state legislators about this. My agent is next to useless and keeps saying it’s inflation when it’s really just corporate greed.

I had the same experience, my old 335i was actually cheaper to insure.

Not sure why this is the case, as the 335i was a significantly more expensive car to buy parts for. I’d argue 335i owners likely use insurance services more often than 330i owners !

The insurance algorithm is rather interesting. We also have a 2023 Tesla Model 3 and a 2019 Mercedes C300; the Tesla is considerably cheaper to insure despite expected repair costs being much higher than the Benz

I'm paying less than that for my 330i, but it's just weird to me that the 335i is still cheaper. I have absolutely no idea why... I spotted a 06 330Ci (E46) tearing it up in front of me last weekend and wondered if the insurance companies are somehow associating them with the E90 330i.

can't help OP, here is pretty cheap, for my 335 is around 450$ /year , but basic cover.

I'm wondering, guys, Ive put my old high mileage E91 up to shape. Means I swapped a low mileage engine, trans, subframes, new suspension, new turbo, new paint...

Should I get a full coverage ? Or the insurer will only cover the value attached to the VIN, so almost nothing ?
