N54 used oil cooler? Flush it?

Hey everyone, I bought a used oil cooler to retrofit onto my N54, I was just curious if it would be possible to flush the cooler before I install it onto the car? Or should I buy a new aftermarket cooler?

I am just really worried I install this and the car swallows a bunch of shavings or debris. I bought it from a guy who was going to install it onto his car but ended up not doing it. So I have no idea what is in the cooler

Any help is appreciated

Obviously every decision car guys make about mods, etc. takes on some degree of calculated risk. I'm quite particular and don't like to take risks that are hard for me to calculate so if it were me, I would get a new aftermarket one.

Chances are youre probably fine--people install used coolers all the time. But I'd sure feel like an idiot if I cost myself $10k for a new engine, etc. because I didn't spend the extra $100 to just get something I know hasn't had shavings run throuhg it.

Yeah, you are right, any brands I should look at? I will be taking it to a track so eventually will need a bigger cooler, might as well install a big one with an adapter now and get that out of the way.

- Burger Motorsports sells a decently cheap one with lines and everything included

- Mishimoto makes a nice one for just a little more, factory location but a little more surface area

- ER Competition is probably the best. Bimmerworld has the best price on that one but it's more than twice the others

There's a few others too like Stett, Mosselman, etc. Any of them should do the trick
