305/45/17 Mickey Thompsons (What are my options to make this work)
Hi all, first time using a forum so go easy on me...
I have fitted 305/45/17 drag tyres on a e39 style 66 alloy which is a 17x9 on a +26 offset. The tyre has plenty clearance behind but is hitting on the arch lip. Before I scrap the idea entirely and downsize to a smaller drag setup what would you people recommend I try to overcome this obstacle? I have used a spirit level and tape measure against the arch. I ideally need a minimum of 15mm extra in order to get these to tuck under the arches on squat. I have thought of the following: 1. Roll the arches and slightly flare out (maybe gain a few mm?) 2. Use taller spring perches to lift the ride height 20 or 30mm (would look awful when the road wheels are on) 3. Somehow fit the e92 M3 arches (this would give me 30mm extra clearance but doesn't seem to be very straight forward to do) 4. Have the back of the alloy machined down 5mm (I am worried doing this incase the wheel snaps at the strip). Possibly a combination of a few things above would get me to my goal, I'm not too fussed with the arches extended out as I could always put a spacer on my road going wheels to make it not look out of place). Any suggestions are very welcomed. |
