Speakers sometimes only work on passenger side (E90)
I just got a CPO 2006 330i with Logic 7. The sound is awesome, but Ive been noting that sometimes the sound will only come out of the passenger side speakers, or the driver side is VERY quiet. I have confirmed this with both CD and tuner, and all different kinds of music. If I turn the radio up loud enough, it seems that the driver side speakers start working again, and I can listen to them at lower volumes fine. Again, this is only like 70% of the time, but lately it has been happening almost every time I get in the car.
(and yes, i've tried playing with the balance, and confirmed that the driver side speakers are much quieter. Balancing them toward driver side isn't a plausible solution) Anyone else have this issue? I'm at 50.4k miles and of course this isnt covered under the CPO warranty Thanks |

anyone??? Does this seem more like a speaker or amp question? it seems that ALL of the driver side door speakers don't work until I really turn up the volume, then they start working. Lose wire? broken amp? where/how should I start checking
thanks so much!!! |

I would start with the lose wire in the speaker. Thats the easiest part I think.

I get this on my e90 330i with 40400 miles too. The first time I get in the car after it has been sitting for awhile, the driver's side speaker doesn't play until I turn the volume up and then I can hear it at lower volumes again. During college, I worked at a car audio shop for over 4 years. Usually this was an indication that the speaker was slightly blown. Since the voice coil is slightly blown, it takes more power to get it to start moving... after that it's ok. I'm not sure how these logic 7 systems are setup though..whether or not it's normal. Any other E90 members experience this?

Bumping this thread, as I have a similar problem (need to turn up the volume to get the driver's side front speaker to work properly).

Curious I have the exact same problem with my E91 with logic7 audio. I suspect an issue with the amp, might be a capacitor thats failing or something. Has anyone here ever managed to find the cause?

Most common cause for amp failure in the e9x and most other series
with amps in the trunk behind the wheel well is water on the amp due to clogged drains there is a class action suit on the 5 series over this. Reseat the amp connections as first step if you don't find water. Otherwise http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1144129 |

You also want to reseat the connectors on the affected speakers too.
I have had this happen on other non BMW vehicles. The contacts build up a patina over time that screws up current flow. At times I have had to replace the connectors to cure this issue. |

Had this exact issue on my E91 for months and it drove me nuts. I took the drive door card off and disconnected/re-connected the speaker wires and haven’t experienced any sound loss from the speaker since. May be worth a shot if it hasn’t been tried yet.
