Front right camber off by 1 degree
Hello,
I refreshed front suspension with M3 control arms, tie rods and new bearings. I did not replace shocks or top mounts. Yesterday after I was done I went to get an alignment, below is the sheet. I noticed (even before I put new arms in) that right front seemed to have a bit more camber just looking at it. Is the strut or subframe bent? I know history of the car, there has been no accidents. Apologies for the sheet not being in english, I highlighted camber and toe measurements |

UPDATE:
I discovered the locating pin on the right side is broken/drilled. I also see that the area (red circle, I can feel it with fingers) is a bit bulged and the nut closest to the pin has lifted a bit. Is the shock tower fixable? Last edited by Rumator; 08-24-2024 at 09:38 AM.. Reason: Typo |

smack it with a rubber hammer, add a support plate or strut tower bar, and check strut. that side probably hit a pothole or something (strut installed and pin wasnt center before tighten?) and mushroomed the tower from ur details (align shop didnt notice?). even with m3 arms and pins removed (proper alignment/camber correction) you should only get around -1.4 max adjust.

Alignment shops around here don't really care, they just take the money and off you go. It was like this when I bought the car.
So I can just hammer it as flat as possible and change top mounts + shocks? By strut bar you mean aftermarket one? Not the OEM two piece bar? Last edited by Rumator; 08-24-2024 at 04:37 PM.. |

Somebody removed the struts before and began to install it with the pin not in the hole. If the pin is still in there then maybe when you tightened it down you bulged it. One of my e90s had the bulge and I didn’t bother to flatten it but you could have if you wanted to.
I’d get new strut mounts as you’re due anyway and with both pins in the holes you should have even camber. I’m at -1.3 on both sides with new mounts and the pins still intact. |

you should remove one of the strut nuts and see where in the oblong hole each strut is, looks like the shop already have the strut pushed to the outside already (align numbers confirm they try to correct it and wear marks). if its just a small localized (vs the the whole tower=would add under tower reinforcement plate then) mushrooming then you should try to dig deeper and see what might be bent (strut , subframe, spindle). by strut tower brace, something like the megans strut bar that will work with stock braces and add support to the tower.

@whyzee125 I haven't touched front struts or mounts at all. I'll replace top mounts on both sides and hammer the spot. If it stays bulged, is it going to affect camber of that wheel? Or is it going to be fine as long as the pin is in the hole?
@335i54n See the photos below, it looks to be bulged only around the pin hole. None of the shops I've been to actually touched the nuts as you can tell by the rust. |
