N53 water pump code 2E85
As far as I can see, there are no cooling related issues with the car. Everything seems normal to me. No warnings or lights.
However, when scanning with Inpa I get 255 occurrences of this code. 2E85 What's the best way forward to see if I have an actual issue with the pump or with something else. The code is a communication error with the pump, I think. Here's the full details.... Quote:

Late response....
I am driving with it for more than 4 months abd it seems to be fine. Did you find what is it? |

General consensus is that it’s a warning sign the electronics in the pump are failing…
Is this the original pump? There was an updated part circa 2015 which resolved a lot of these issues… |

Sorry for the late reply but yes, it is the original pump. This code has been showing up for several years and it is still working ok.
I think I will leave it another year, then look at replacing as the pierburg pumps are £250+ and everything works great still.

As an update, I've been wondering if this communication fault with the pump causes the pump to then run at full speed. Which in turn slows down the warming up of the engine?
Just a theory. Does anyone subscribe?

I am also paying attention to mine. I've only had this E90 since the beginning of the year, and some months back I scanned errors with INPA and it showed a few relating to the water pump specifically. The one was error 2e84 which is essentially the same as 2e85 based on the error description, but then it also has two stored instances where it had error 2e81, which is water pump speed deviation. But all of these errors were almost 30k km ago, so I need to still going through the servicing end repair records (invoices) to see if anything was done that relates. I have however noticed that the water pump is sometimes audibly quite noticeable, which I never experienced with my old E90. So am monitoring it via hidden temp menu, but I am preparing to get this done at some point, Pierburg pump and thermostat!
