E93 roof won't operate unless trunk piece is pushed down each time
So basically, my E93 roof won’t operate unless I take the following steps after every cycle of operation:
- Open the trunk and push down the piece that needs to be locked in place. (Nothing major or minor happens that I can notice, like clicking sounds or anything similar.) - Then, I operate the roof as normal. As soon as the roof opens and closes, the same problem arises again. I’ve tried lubricating the hinges and ensured my trunk is completely empty, but these steps haven’t solved the issue. My roof works fine it just gets tedious to do this process each time. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance. |

Do you get any fault lights on the dash?

Sounds like the switch that detects the closed trunk is sticky. Open it up and spray it with electronics cleaner.

Had the same problem a while ago. It’s not a switch like lowrydr says. It’s a sensor that detects its down. Just loosen the sensor and raise it a bit but not so much that it hits. It’s by one of the trunk rear hinges. Did it a few years ago and working fine since. Repeated closing seems to vibrate it down after many years of use.

I live in constant fear that if I get into a minor fender bender that it will bend something in the convertible hard top mechanism. There is a lot of inexpensive preventaitive maintenance that can be done on the mechanism, but very few inexpensive fixes for anything…..
