I pulled the tape off and the wiring is twisted together. But it has definitely been snapped in the past and looks as though whoever had it just tried to twist it together and then taped it.

I was just writing a response saying I looked at a couple other threads after searching those codes and it seems like people got those codes after bending pins on their mechatronic when reinstalling the TCU wire harness or breaking the connector on the shift assembly.

Assuming your pins are fine on your new mechatronic, it seems like you might've found the issue on your gear shift assembly? Maybe try splicing those wires to see if it fixes your issue and then pick up a shift assembly from a junk yard. I like using www.car-part.com, if you haven't heard of that before it's a network for junk yards to post items they have for sale.

For reference, here are the forum threads I looked at:

Kind of off topic here but with this turbo setup should i be running ngk 2 step plugs? Im on pump 91 with a custom bef tune but while surfing it says that i need to upgrade the plugs.

so like assumed, this seems like electrical issue.

are you redoing the wiring?

Is ISTA module reading got you some communication issue?

Idk if i can redo the wiring im not very good at stuff like that. But yes i bought the software like konistat suggested i do and i was given those codes. I had bought a shifter off marketplace and the wiring was electrical taped together lol. It was tucked and I was a dummy and didnt pull it out to really check.

The ‘ol Facebook bait and switch.

Pick up an inline splice connector for now. WAGO is a decent brand. Probably not rated for automotive vibration but then you’ll know if that’s your problem

If pushing over 500whp I’d go with at least 1 step colder. 2 steps above 650whp as well. Those are rough numbers. Get some fresh Eldor coil packs as well if you don’t already. Don’t forget dielectric grease to prevent an annoying stuck coil boot on your plugs

on 91 500whp is optimistic .

1 step colder should be fine.

2 step will work just fine too, might decrease mpg.

Im running a borgwarner 6973, im not sure how much power im making but i dont get full boost until around 4-4.5k rpm, and im running b58 coils. No e85 here just pump 91 and good ole 100 octane/ms 109. 1 step colder will be more beneficial for my setup?

That’s a hefty snail you got there. Try 1 step colders and see how those do. If your boost is above about 25 psi then 2 steps might be the better option but maybe overdose will chime in. Good move on the B58s plenty of spark energy

I am still somewhat new to these so please excuse my ignorance on these. I do most of the work myself and am still learning. On 91 octane im running 24 psi and on ms109 i run 32 lbs of boost. The car has not misfired on high octane so i did not take notice of the plugs and was running bosch. My fuel trims are also +/- 3 at most

The issue in this case is more so knocking or timing corrections caused by pre ignition. The colder plugs have better heat sinking and so the plugs won’t run as hot at the tip. Since the tip is in the chamber if it gets too hot it can cause pre ignition (detonation) at high boost. At 24 psi since you’re not having issues you’re probably fine but if you do several back to back pulls on a hot day at 32 psi I would say you’re likely to experience some detonation but then again you’re running MS109 at high boost so I’m sure that’s helping prevent it. Something to consider swapping out for colder plugs if you ever have timing corrections

agreed.

Op you can always log the car where you want and keep an eye on timing correction and miss fire before changing stuff.

make me crazy when people changing everything, like adding a dual fuel pump and never check if it's needed.

Thanks for the help you guys. I changed out the gear shifter and the cable and it fixed my problem. I had previously bought a shifter that someone rewired but did so incorrectly and so the wires split. I ordered some ngk plugs just in case, but the ones i have havent given me any issues as of yet.
