Bad oil level sensor - How do I know if i actually need oil?
Yeah basically title. I suspect i have a bad oil level sensor because whenever i check my oil level it will give me some reading significantly different from the previous one. One time i checked it, and it said my oil was filled to the max line, then 2 days later i check it and it’s saying i’m close to needing to add a quart of oil, then i check it again 2 days after that and it says i have a perfect level again. All of the readings were taken on level ground. Anyways today i got to school and i got an oil level low warning. How can i tell if my engine actually needs oil? I don’t want to be dumping oil into an engine that’s already filled to the max with oil. 2011 328i N51

i prefer to change the oil sensor, i believe that there's no way to know what is your oil level until you change it , you don't want to loss your Engen because of sensor, if your changing your oil every 5k or 10k that's will be okay but let say you have a small leak from where you will know
