Speaker Upgrade L7

Hi All,

I've been building the sound system in my E92 with L7 and have done quite a bit of upgrading:

P3 12" Fosgate Sub with a Mono Amp
2 Channel Rockford Amp for 8" Woofers
Audison M8.14 DSP

Volume is more than adequate however the overall sound is "muddy" and there is little instrument separation-The top end is the weak part of the system.

People have recommended changing the speakers out-What would be a cost effective option that yields the greatest improvement? Looking for much detail/separation in my music.

Thanks!

What have you done as far as tuning the DSP? While you can definitely improve over the stock drivers, in my system (Hi-Fi) the amp was by far the weakest link and the speaker upgrade was a minor improvement. I used Room EQ Wizard and a calibrated USB microphone to set the time alignment and EQ the speakers with the my AudioControl D-6.1200 and am happy with the results.

I was a lot to learn but there are a lot of great resources on www.diymobileaudio.com. This is was a good starting point:

Even the base setup was pretty good when i tuned them with DSP + added tweeters.

i was shocked.

While they lack in power they are somewhat the perfect speakers as they are purpose designed to give best output with limited budget.

I still blew all my stock base speakers when experimenting around so they are not designed to handle any increased power compared to CIC ~12W

Most Cost effective is f30 hi-fi speakers. A used set is about $50, but the rears will need gluing with e6000 since the rear e90door studs are slightly too short. Leave the rear door tweeters disconnected For better imaging and you should be able to hear the 5 drum beats walk across the dash top on “In a Big Country”

Be aware The fronts barely fit over the studs but you can still use the nuts. Just bump up the 5k and 10k a couple notches from flat, as L7 speakers are overly harsh and metallic sounding. The f30s are much more tonally accurate but the L7 amp seems to dial those freq back to compensate for the overly sharp L7 speakers.

Mine sounded quite good on just f30 speakers and stock L7 amp and underseats.

Recently changed to mobridge and SWS 8xi and about to replicate my f31 match up7 set up.
