Extended warranty.

Are there any UK users who have taken third party extended warranty?
My 3 year manufacturer's warranty expires next Feb and I've just had a quote from BMW for my 840d coupé: cost for the fourth year will be £1495 for comprehensive + roadside assist with a £250 excess per claim.
From what I've read, companies like Warranty Direct and Motor Easy are great at selling you a policy but not so good at settling a claim without a load of hassle.
I do less than 4k miles per year so £1.5k for the warranty is hard to justify.
Perhaps it's time for a change... I know it's a completely different class of car but I quite like the look and specs of the new Audi S5 Avant. It's getting some pretty good reviews and you can buy two years of extended warranty up front for £950, not bad for five years peace of mind. I feel a test drive coming on!
