so after bringing my car in for the rattling sound - bmw told me that they will replace the waste gate actuator

one question - people that got their actuator replace - did the problem ever occur again and if it did, how long did it take before it start rattling again ?

You might get new turbos also. I had my car taken in for the rattling sound about 2 months ago, and the service manager had the turbos replaced along with new wastegates. He actually showed me the parts they replaced. It was the manifold with the wastegates and turbos. You should get the same?

did you hear the rattling only when the rpms were dropping from 3500 or at idle too?

i start hearing it around 20 k miles - but it was unnoticeable
around 25 k it got pretty bad

its rattles at idle from time to time
but you can definitely hear it when its above 3 k rpm (reving or shifting while driving )

they told me that they are only replacing the wastegate actuator - nothing about getting a new turbo

07 june built? i thought the e92 didn't start production until august or something?

my car is currently in the shop for the rattling noise as well, they haven't found the cause yet, but i've showed them the SIB i found here. hope they'll replace the wastegate actuators and turbos.

+1 happened to me too. After driving for awhile, the sound is back briefly when the rpms dropping and is passing the 3100-3200 mark.

Can some on post a link to the sound... I think I have the "rattle noise" on my E60...

Mine was replaced a while back and it never came back.
The actuators were replaced and the software was left alone.
Now the actuators will get replaced and they'll update the software version of the ecu.

they built them in 06 - i remember seeing someone with it around Christmas time

i forgot to tell my dealer not to touch the old ecu software )o=
