Could BMW provide winter tires for ED during winter?

I wonder if BMW could provide winter tires (as a rental or whatever) for ED during winter months, for cars with ZSP.

Anyone savvy about regular deliveries to German buyers during winter? How does the no summer tire legal issue work out?

No, but for All Season (rated M+S) tires they recommend you carry chains. Of course, chains cannot be used on Autobahns (just on some crossings) and there are very low speed limits if you have chains on. You can rent the chains from the ADAC.

German buyers would buy winter tires of course in addition to the tires that are delivered on the car.

Say a US ED buyer decides to buy winter tires & rims, has them installed for driving around, then uninstalled before drop off at Harms, and ships the wheels back. Feasible?

Yes.

HOWEVER, the shipping costs would be greater than the value of the tires and wheels, when you also factor in customs and other fees.

Would be better to sell them on Craig's list locally.

As an alternate, you might try seeing if you could get several winter BMW buyers who are not going to be in Munich at the same time to jointly buy one set. Then either find a local acquaintance to store them in between or see if the Freimann people would do that (I doubt it because they have severe space limitations).

If you're talking about buying tires in Europe and sending them back to the US, make certain they are DOT approved. Otherwise they can't be used on US roads. Here in England, I've heard that if the tyres (sic) aren't approved and you're in an accident, the insurance company can decline your claim.
