E92 Ipod integration
I remember reading somewhere on this forum before that the Ipod adaptor will be available on the E92 from the get-go. Is this confirmed? or will it be an accessory released later?
Apologies if this has been asked earlier. Thanks. |

The BMW Interface for iPod will be released in the U.S. at the end of July. Since the E92 is being released after that, you can see how this comes together.

....oops yeah... just have not seen it in any catalogue from BMWNA yet so I can hit my dealer up ahead of time..
It may have been already been mentioned but this can be added on whenever correct? As long as you are not running a CD changer in the boot. ~Frost |

i would think you can still feed in the single disk? If not, the loss is minor, i dont think i have used a CD in my car for years, ipod is far superior

my understanding is you can STILL have a 1-disc dash CD player with MP3 capability and hte MOST iPod adapter.
You can NOT have MOST iPod and a CD changer of any type because there is only one 'input' of this type in hte E90 and upcomming E92 You will never loose the single CD slot if I am correct. ~Frost |

Frosty, you are correct - this does not impact the in-dash CD.

I will probably get the iPod adapter for my car when it's released but I just dont understand how hard is for a car to have a cd changer and an ipod adapter.

Thanks Jonathan and other posters for the information about the new ipod accessory that will be available sometime this month. The integration with the idrive interface and having control of the ipod via the steering wheel controls is a much better way of using the ipod while driving. I understand this will be a dealer add-on and will have the connector for the ipod in the glove box. This raises one practical question in my mind. Will it be possible to hook up the power adapter and run the cable into the glove box as well so that the ipod won't have to rely on its charged battery? And has BMWNA or any US dealer quoted the cost? My local dealership knows nothing about this feature.
Also, the new coupes come with an Auxillary Audio Input for portable music players that is located in the center armrest. What exactly is this? Is this the same as the input that can be installed in the glove box? Or is this simply a way to plug your ipod into the stereo system, but for the driver to control the music, he/she will have to use the ipod wheel to change songs and thus will not have the integration with the steering wheel and idrive? Thank you for your help. Doug |

Thanks for the quick reply. My confusion with the ipod interface is that on the ipodyourbmw.com the video shows the interface in the glovebox. This interface system allows the driver to control the ipod via the steering wheel and through the idrive system, which is what I want with my new bimmer. However, the site does not mention anything about a middle console hook-up....only the glovebox.
Does the aux input located in the middle console of the new 3-series coupe function the same as the interface in the video on ipodyourbmw.com? Put another way, can this middle console input give the driver the ability to control the music selection via the steering wheel and see the song displays on the idrive screen? The middle console aux input is standard on the new coupe. I am trying to figure out if I have to fork over extra $$$ to have the ability to control the ipod via the steering wheel controls and to have it interface with the idrive system. Again, thank you and sorry if this is asked somewhere else in the forum. I promise I looked through tons of posts and didn't find this addressed. Doug |
