2009 New iDrive bootup
I've noticed that sometimes when I get into my car and start it up, iDrive comes up instantly as if it's already running.
Other times when I start the car I see the "BMW" screen (which looks cool, BTW), and then I have to wait for the iDrive (followed by the Nav system) to boot up. I can't figure out any pattern to this. What are the criteria which results in the iDrive/Nav booting up when starting the car? |

Maybe it starts loading as soon as you open the door locks or door etc...

The previous gen iDrive starts loading once you unlock the doors. I think it's the same for the new gen.

It starts loading as soon as you open/unlock the doors. Next time, get in the car and wait a few seconds before starting the engine or inserting the key. The nav will come on instantly.

Today I unlocked the car (2009 E90), and got the engine started within 5-10 seconds. Note that the car had been sitting locked for several days. The iDrive did not display the BMW logo screen, but instead went almost immediately to the "Starting Nav..." notice. I immediately pushed the "MENU" button and the main menu was displayed.
So, I have verified that even though the Navigation portion takes longer to boot up, the iDrive system itself seems to be responsive right away. |
