What resistor needed to dim boost gauge lighting?
Sorry for posting in 2 different sections. I posted this in the turbo engine/drivetrain section and didn't get any responses. Maybe I'll have more luck here...
So I installed a STRI mechanical boost gauge with the Rixster pod. I wired it up as per the Rixster instructions (yellow and red wires joined together, and connected to the red/gray wire at the cigarette lighter). It works as described, meaning it lights up when the cars headlights are turned on, and the brightness can be adjusted with the instrument panel brightness control. The problem is the boost gauge is probably two clicks brighter than the instrument panel lights, and is too bright for me when I have the dash lights adjusted to where I want them. So do any of you electronics wizards out there know what ohm resistor I need to wire up to reduce the brightness just a tad? The gauge also tends to show reflections during the day due to its location and the convex shape of the lens. I'll probably look for a hood to try to fix that. The gauge works great otherwise. I would start with a 1k resistor, and then go higher for less dim, and lower value for more dim. Or you could throw a variable resistor on there (potentiometer) and adjust it til you find the desired brightness.
