Voice Control - Any use?
OK,
Who thinks that voice control is rubbish? I find it gets nearly all the commands wrong and you are forever saying 'options' and waiting while it runs through the maze of commands as there are too many to remember. Then you have to wait ages for that stupid 'beep' before you can speak. Then it gets all nuts and starts offering hifi settings or trying to phone people when all you want is to change a CD. Rubbish. Just like Jeremy Clarkson trying to talk to that SL500 merc a while back on Top Gear.... "I just want to make a call, you stupid car" whilst mayhem was breaking out in the cabin!

I find it works almost all of the time, perhaps the only exception being if the fan is on very high in the cabin.

i thought it was a cool feature initially, and even printed a quick reference card of all the commands. But, afte time i feel that using it is just tedius and impracticle. I actually have become quite frustrated by it as of recently.
Bottom line is it is just to slow and lagged to be very useful. I dont understand why the voice recognition is not nearly on par with my blue tooth voice recognition in my phone and hand free ear piece.

I like it a lot, some functions such as "Stop guidance" are a few clicks away, while saying stop guidance does it right away.. Things that already have hard buttons, or are not that deep in the system I will usually use the buttons and idrive. Anything specific that I want that takes a few steps to get to, I use voice.
I do agree it does not understand what you are saying every now and then.

There are certain simple commands I use a lot, which take a few clicks to get to otherwise. Saying "map" for example, or dialing someone by name or number.

The voice control is totally useless for this. I can say a friends name and get any of 10 or more similar sounding contacts come up. The VC also mutes the stereo, so you are missing the radio or CD for the time concerned. You always need it when something interesting is on the radio!!
