If you blew a fuse, BWM could technically argue that the extra weight of aftermarket wheels (or even the subtraction of weight) could offset the momentum inertia causing the transmission differential to exert a higher load on the engine causing the alternator to be under a higher stress factor causing a fuse to blow and take out the whole fuse panel at the same time...and void your warranty.
Therefore, if you do anything outside of the specs of the car, they 'may' void your warranty inspite of the fact that what you might be doing is making the car more reliable (ie. better intercooler). |

I was searching the net and in doing so came across this post.
It always amuses me that intercooler manufactures are happy to post up their intercooler HP and compare the pressure drops if they feel theirs are better but none seem to post up the cooling abilities which is after all the real reason we buy intercoolers. I'm about to inter cool a BMW 335i with something a little different on a friends car, the data below is from my 4x4 with the same intercooler I designed and developed for my 4.3Ltr . Very short flow lengths, minimal pressure drop, cools standing still. Pre and Post intercooler Map Per and Post Temp (not exhaust temps as stated on print out) Last edited by MattMc; 12-15-2008 at 11:15 PM.. |

They certainly are very efficient, low pressure drop and very good heat exchange especially when you consider all the heat transfer is done in approx 50mm (2") of air travel as it travels around the core.
The more we test them the better results we are finding all the time. It also has the WTF factor when you pop the bonnet lol. Regards Andrew from Oz. |

Here is a pic of mine, Awill4x4 welded it all up. The data in the above graphs are the end result.
You can see the 2 temp sensors one before and one after. The first is purely for testing. Now enough 4xs4's here's a BMW this will sit just above the rocker cover as shown below prior to fabrication and yes the bonnet will close without any issues. Well, we've managed to get a bit more done on the BMW at the moment and below are some pics showing configuration and the approximate location.
So far all is going well and we're not anticipating any major problems, the pics are only showing partial fabrication so a number of welds aren't done as yet, but when it's finished it should look pretty good. Regards Andrew. |
