How do you create objects look metallic silver in photoshop?
How do you create objects look metallic silver in photoshop? I have always envied the new apple logo. Does anybody know how to make an object look metallic silver (that shines) like the apple logo on photoshop?

Well, first you get a brushed aluminum picture from the web with visible grain on, and open it up in photoshop.
Then, you make another layer OVER it (layer2) and assign any desirable color, you could bucket it or make color patterns as you desire to achieve any specific need you have. Then, you change 'normal' tab right below the 'layer' tab on layer window to any desirable ones to achieve the effect you want. Normal, multiply or overlay would work fine in this case. And as far as getting apple logo like metal look, you should work on grey shades on layer 2. Hope this helps. |

You can easily create the brushed aluminum texture by
a) creating a new file and setting resolution that fits your size requirement b) Making/filling a live selection with a grey gradient that alternates from neutral gray to light and dark grey (adjust distances and emulate a light reflection) or just use a metal gradient c) Using filter drop down add noise d) Use motion blur filter, check preview box, adjust settings to 90 degree direction and play with distance until it looks reasonably like brushed alum e) create a new adjustment layer above set to lighten and fill wit a light to dark gradient and set transparency accordingly. |
