Don't be fooled again. Forget the Camaro. With the corners that GM is frantically cutting I would bet the Camaro will not remotely compare to the 135i in finish or refinement. It will cost thousands less, but you're going to get what you pay for - if you're lucky and the 1st model year doesn't have numerous flaws.

1981 Plymouth Turismo. What a piece of crap. Hard not to be as it was a Chrysler back when Chrysler's were even worse.
The thing ate oil like it was candy.

OK, to set the timeline, born in 1970, I graduated High School In 1988. I would say that my forst 3 cars are pretty close on teh crappy scale, maybe even Car 4.
When I started driving in 1986, my first car was my dad's old 1976 Honda Civic CVCC 5 speed stick. One of the last cars to run on regular gas, which I could still get then. I remember at one point, regular was $0.639 a gallon. I could scrounge up spare change from the floorboard or a couple of buddies and drive for a week. It had 150k plus miles on it when I started driving and that year was known to be a lemon, as the middle 2 cylinders did not have a water jacket between them and it could easily overheat and warp the head. Eventually it did it for the second time (though I might not have kept up the the oil and it burned it like a 2 cycle) and we sold it for parts to our mailman in 1987 sometime. Car 2 was a Blue 1974 Chevy Vega Station Wagon Auto some realative was getting rid of. This car actually had an optional lock on it as you could take the key out in one position and then you did not need a key to start or drive it. You had to select the lock position yourself to need the key. It had huge bumps on the front fenders for the lights and all my friends called it the batmobile. It was a little car, but due to its station wagon-ness, we sure could cram a ton of people in there going to lunch senior year. Evenetually, another car came my way and my brother inherited the Vega and drove it till it died a few years later. Car 3 was my stepmother's 1977 Toyota Corolla 2 door with a 4 speed stick that she passed on when she got a new car sometime in the summer of 1988. It had rubber flooring all over and the gas tank was actually vertical behind the back seat and the bottom was angled down toward the center pickup, so it was great for driving down to the last drop of gas. They actually gave this to me as I left the nest. I traded it in a couple of years later for: Car 4 was a 1990 Daihatsu Charade. It was a 3 cylinder 990 cc engine with 5 speed stick. Actually not a bad car at all and I kept it till 1996 maybe when my now wife made me sell it as I was dricing something else and just keeping it for whatever. After that, I went through a sucession of company vehicles like extended cab pickups and explorers before buying a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and then a 2004 MINI Cooper, which I will have till I get a 135. |

1984 Pontiac Fiero 2M4. A real dog that turned out to be a lemon. Slow as hell. Started burning oil and smoking in a big way. Sat in the dealer's service department on and off for 6 weeks before they finally bought it back from me and sold me a brand new loaded '85 Fiero GT (6-cyl.) for about $1000 more than what I paid for the basic '84 Fiero. I was ecstatic after much misery and the Fiero GT was an awesome thing for me. I was 25 then.

1989 Toyota Tercel. 78 horsepower, 1950lbs (basically a Lotus!), manual transmission I learned on, no tachometer, top speed before violent vibration was around 70 mph, the whole front end held together mostly by Bondo.
Got it for $200 and it lasted for a year before the bottom rusted out. Not bad when you consider the whole car cost less then replacing a single tire on the 1er! Also, hard to argue with ~40+mpg all the time. That thing was a huge POS but I will admit I almost cried when I junked it. Every now and then I look on craigslist to see if I can pick up another one as a beater. |

1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4. Biggest pile of crap I've owned. There was always, always something wrong with that heap. Every week it was in the shop for something or getting something fixed. I'll never own another Mitsu product after that one. Complete garbage.
Leaking transfer case, leaking transmission, multiple broken antenas, broken reverse lights, bad carrier bearings, climate control malfunctions, broken wire harness, spun bearing... good times. |

Then how do you feel about me?
So far the worst car I have ever owned is my 135i ![]() Of course in the same sentence I can say it is the best car I have ever owned. It all depends on whether or not it is driving well or in the shop again ![]() The car I hated when I had it but miss it and am now looking for another is my first car, a 1978 Datsun 620 Pickup. I had fun in that little truck but I never wanted to be seen in it since it was three different colors with the hood being primer grey. The belts were loose so it would whine until it warmed up ![]()
